Red Lentils Dal
Pacifies Vata - Pitta - Kapha
Healthy Indian Soup (dal) to pacify all doshas. Red lentils are full of iron and good as a blood and liver cleanser.
Ingredients for 2

  • 200g of red lentils

  • 2 tsp. coconut oil or ghee

  • 1 tsp. cumin seeds

  • 1 tsp. mustard seeds

  • 2 cloves garlic

  • 1 small handful coriander leaves

  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric

  • 1 tsp. masala powder

  • 1/2 tsp. salt

  • 1/2 Tsp | Turmeric powder

  • 1 shallot or small onion

  • 1 piece of Ginger

  • 2 bay leaves (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Wash and rinse the lentils at least twice. If possible, soak overnights to make it easier to digest. 

  2. Add the lentils and 4 cups of the water to a pan and bring to a boil.

  3. Cook on medium heat, uncovered, for 30 minutes with 2 bay leaves. Stir from times to times

  4. Heat the oil in a small pan until medium hot, add the mustard seeds. Once the seeds start popping, add the cumin seeds, chopped garlic, chopped ginger. 

  5.  Add turmeric and masala powder. Mix quickly. This will create a paste. 

  6. Add this spice mixture into the soup, then add the salt. Add some or all of the last cup of water, depending on the how thick you want the dal (indian soup).

  7. Add fresh coriander on top + a tsp of ghee or coconut oil and a squeeze of lemon or lime (pitta) if you wish.

  8. Enjoy with basmati rice!
